Not rare for me(:

I grew up 5 miles from the headquarters of the Aryan Nations in 1991 - in the US - seeing people with swastika armbands at a restaurant was somewhat of a normal sighting. As were the fights between the extreme racists in the area and ... well they were mostly surrounded by white people so they mostly fought themselves.. Telling people you were Jewish in North Idaho often led to a lot of regret for having divulged that information. Or anger at those who learned of that information and decided to end our friendship because of it.

It would always be tricky to explain to black friends... In Idaho they would have to jump on the racism train and act like all the white rednecks to fit in - make jew jokes - etc... Sometimes I would have to remind them that we both are both looked down upon by the same people. They had the mercy of being saved from humor to their face because people could see they were black. People of course can't tell if you're Jewish by looking at you - so it was fun to withhold your identity - and then hear their candid opinion of your people, hear their jokes, see what your friends really think of your true nature.

To a fellow Jew then - you sound like one that hasn't experienced it truly - in real force.

Silence is deadly, do not drop your shield - speak up for yourself if you do.

I think any of these caricatures are only if one holds and aligns the stereotypes to Jews themselves....

I think when you ponder the idea of a money loving creature - you automatically wander across stereotypes - and so when you execute that creative idea, one often reenacts them unwillingly.

Yikes, why dd you live there? Cheap rent or? lol

In Europe it's still rare to see full blown shaved head and swastika tattoo guys if you're not close to a hot spot. Like I saw them in Berlin sometimes in the 1990ies, probabably they're common in East Germany now.

The problem here like in USA is also in the votes .. in the 1990ies the racist party would get like 5% of the votes, now they go like 20-30%. LIke FN in France was like a joke party in the 1980ies and most of the 1990ies, now FN is one of the most seripus candidates for the presidency.
