In some countries, takebacks are seen as a sign of moral decrepitude and offenders can be sentenced to be whipped up to 20 times in front of an angry crowd.
Chess is ...
... a board game: touch-move, of course. Haha!
... a computer game: take-back because of mouse-slips? Ha!? Hahaha!
So it‘s up to you to decide how to make a fool out of yourself. Go ahead and ask for takebacks, you will hear the laughter of your opponents.

Disable take backs and select move confirm just to make it fair. Move confirm deals with "mouse slips"
Move confirm is still not very good if you play blitz or if you are in time trouble.
OK do not play blitz and do not get in time trouble!
This is a game and games are most of the time about having fun. Get over it. Thanks
Takebacks are not allowed in chess.
As simple as that...

In any rated game, take backs should not be permitted, because the opponent saw the piece you planned to move.
The point is to not show the opponent what you see in the position. So the touch move is there because you are showing the player the piece you planned on moving. Even if you see a better move after, too bad. The fact that you distracted the opponent by touching a piece, you must now play it.

You can always decide to decline the takeback as I (almost always) do on rated games.
On casual games I really don't care.
