Cheats, cronyism and Frankenstein's Monster.

#100 funny sort of passive aggressive thing going on there.

No, KC didn't accuse my friend of using an engine. This friend of mine who cheated was a long time ago. The hard time that I and others gave KC was on a totally different subject, which has been put to bed since his apology. I'm sure KC will agree, we have had several perfectly cordial communications.

Well done for not contributing anything useful whatsoever :D
"Perhaps the first thing would be to register only one account per person from one IP address. If someone registers from a school or college they should declare that so a whole establishment doesn't get barred."

You must be joking. What's to stop a mischievous cheater from just claiming that he's on a dynamic IP address or at a school/university?

You want to verify my enrolment certificate?

Engine abusers cannot be completely stopped, but I agree that IP banning will reduce them significantly.

Not just engine abusing however, but harassment.
This guy: http://en.lichess.org/@/RabelAngel

Has a particular love for harassing people who beat him.

I tried to play a new game after he trash talked me, however, he signed into another account and waited until I put a seek request in. Then he would play against me and when he won continued to brag about his score.

Some of the few accounts RabelAngel has:

I believe IP banning will stop this multi-accounting harassment. And also if engine abusers want to create a new account.

But there also may be brothers/sisters in the same household who wants to play. Also, cheaters can use a proxy to create accounts.
as far as i know, in practice the main issue with IP bans isn't "lol just use a proxy", but that many ISPs around the world just allocate ip addresses dynamically. so 1) the guy just has to reconnect to circumvent it and 2) if you decide to ban a whole range of addresses (to solve point 1), you will screw over innocent users using the same service.

maybe an acceptable sacrifice in "some cases" (whatever they are)? i'm not very much into that myself.
i'm not sure how IP allocation works around the world but where i am right now pretty much every ISP allocates IPs dynamically...
Lightsss, my proxy solution was for #102, where he proposed 1 acc. per ip. A cheater could simply create accounts using an online proxy and use them later.
However, I do agree that 1 person using an engine in a public network, can ban innocent people as well.
i hadn't intended to reply to you specifically :p just saying some general issues with ip bans. i like the idea of ip bans but they aren't great mainly due to the dynamic ip allocation thingy, i think.
directed to #1
instead of giving your personal information to a bunch of strangers i think we stick with what we have right now but to stop alts of cheaters it should be an IP ban for a week for either the amount of games they've been playing or if they have a bunch of alts IP ban them for the amount of weeks of the same number of alts
