Season 11 - Fifth Level - Group I

It’s crunch time as we head into the final month of the 11th Correspondence League – with titles, promotions and relegations all set to be decided.

The final three rounds will all be played simultaneously from Saturday, and the beauty of the format means no promotions have yet been confirmed and the only relegations are down to withdrawals.

Here is how things stand in your group ahead of rounds seven, eight and nine. A reminder – if two players finish on the same score, the following tiebreaks will apply in this order:

#1: Points vs. tied participants
#2: Match wins
#3: Sonnerborn-Berger score against group (not calculated in these league tables).

I’ve tried to include the various tiebreaks in the tables.

Group I (tier 5)
1. Szachy05 P6 Pts 12
2. Shampanjasosialisti P8 Pts 11
--------------------------------------
3. Geelse_zot P6 Pts 10
4. valeysma P5 Pts 8 (more wins than vrkp323)
5. vrkp323 P5 Pts 8
6. jmdana P7 Pts 6
7. PAmbrose P6 Pts 5
8. H0neymOOn P5 Pts 4
--------------------------------------
9. Krzysztof1995 P9 Pts 1 (R) (withdrawn)
10. Ilya_Sikharulidze P9 Pts 1) (R) (withdrawn)

This group has been hit by withdrawals, meaning none of the remaining places need fear getting relegated.

But there is plenty to play for at the top end of the table, with all of the top half still in contention. Leaders Szachy05 and Shampanjasosialisti have both bounced back well from relegation last year - but neither are up yet. Shampanja has played up to three games more than some of his rivals, meaning there's still hope for the likes of Geelse_zot, valeysma and vrkp323.

Szachy and Shampanja meet in round seven, with the latter realistically needing something to stay in the top two. Another crunch fixture in that round will see valeysma have white versus Geelse_zot, while Szachy also faces matches against rivals crkp323 and Geelse_zot.

Best of luck to all competitors in your final three games!
