Why doesn't white immediately recapture in this position?

I'm sorry I don't know how to embed positions but why doesn't white take Qxc4 immediately after the Benko gambit with d4 Nf6 c4 c5 d5 b5 Qc2 bxc4

And I'm guessing that it's because, with correct play, the pawn on d5 isn't defensible and that Ba6 hitting the queen comes with tempo, but I'm just wildly speculating.
It seems that white can better regain the c4 pawn by playing the developing moves 5. e4 d6 6. Bxc4. This preserves the d5 pawn and neutralizes the black move . . .Ba6.
