Have you ever play against a top 20 world player

<Comment deleted by user>
Focus on practice, some books. Many Blitz games in order to train all parts of the game.

I was an expert in the Rossolimo so I got a decent position against Sakaev.
When I wasn't interested in the world of chess (I didn't even knew who the world champion was), I played against Nigel Short on PlayChess (maybe the game lasted about 12 or 15 moves lol).
My relative a GM with whom I sadly never played nor trained with was #3 in the world decades ago...

A funny true Mark Taimanov story playing VS a master relative of his:

At a party in Soviet Union ages ago an old master asked if his relative Taimanov would give him the honor of playing a game. Taimanov wanted to talk to people and drink champagne, so he offered to simply call out the moves as he socialized with people. The master went into a separate room with a board and occasionally yelled out his moves, Taimanov would instantly shout back his moves. The old master lost the game. As Taimanov was putting on his coat to leave later that night he said to the old master: “By the way, about the game, if you went rook takes, you would take the 7th eventually and draw.” The master ran to the board and checked the variations. He immediately called his friend (on the old rotary phone) and yelled: “HEY! HEY! LISTEN!!!! I just drew the game VS Taimanov, and could have even won it!”

:)
I played Fabiano Caruana in a simul. Does that count ?
I have played in simuls Vs David Howell, Michael Adams, Luke McShane, Jovanka Houska and Simon Williams. Simuls are a great experience, very enjoyable.
I played Chucky in a large simul. It was a close fight. Finally I was the last man standing (sitting) and Chucky took a seat as well, so it turned into a „regular“ game after all. Eventually I lost though.
