About me

Hi, My name is Daria Visanescu and I am 24 years old. I live in Romania and I hold WFM title, being an active chess player and teacher.

Playing experience

I have been playing chess since 5 years old. My experience includes random open tournaments, National Championships, European and World Championships. Among my biggest achievements I would mention:

- European Chess Champion in 2006
- Vice-European Chess Champion in 2012
- multiple World School Chess Champion
- multiple national champion as a junior
- multiple medals with teams at EYCC and national tournaments

What I like most in chess are solving problems contests and working on my reasoning/ logical skills.

Teaching experience

I have 2 years experience as a teacher on and off, both with kids and adults, ranging 3 years old - adults. I have worked in groups of kids and individually with adults. The biggest challenge was to be there for each and one of them as they were different personalities, levels and ages. I have worked either in schools or after schools, face to face, either online in case of the adults.

Other experiences

I have gained a degree in Psychology which helped me a lot with my soft skills. Not the degree itself, but the journey I was on during my University :) I can easily understand people and their needs, and that is the reason why I prefer personalized training approaches.

Best skills

Patience
Dedication
Coherence
Structure
Enthusiasm
The curiosity to meet new people :) - not a skill but an important trait

Teaching methodology

I prefer personalized training approaches. First the student is evaluated and we establish together his level. Then we discuss his needs and targets, we talk about what he wants to obtain during our chess lessons. It is an important step as there are many reasons why someone would like to learn chess. Of course, I have my own philosophy: I want my student to become independent and my main focus is to help him gain the understanding of chess. My student should learn where to search information about chess, how to work with the main tools and how to train himself. I do not focus on memorizing moves. I focus on strategies and how I can help my student develop his own strategies, and at last to be able to conduct a logical thread without me. I emphasize the critical, abstract and logical thinking - and I shape my student thinking skills because that is what I love the most about being a teacher and I want to make changes at a more profound level than memorizing.

Note: My philosophy is the reason why I do not accept collaborations longer than 6 months.
